Charlie Rose is an American journalist, talk show host, and television producer. He hosted the PBS interview show ‘Charlie Rose’ and served as a correspondent for 60 Minutes II. His television credits include CBS This Morning, CBS Evening News, and Person to Person. He’s made cameo appearances in films like Primary Colors (1998) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Rose was born Charles Peete Rose Jr. on January 5, 1942, in Henderson, North Carolina. His parents Margaret and Charles Sr. farmed tobacco and ran a country store. Rose attended Henderson High School where he played basketball. He earned his BA degree in history from Duke University (1964), and his JD from Duke University School of Law (1968). He also took graduate courses at the New York University School of Business.

CAREER
Rose worked briefly at New York bank Bankers Trust in the early 1970s. His first reporting job was with New York’s WPIX-TV in 1972. He was hired as managing editor of Bill Moyers’ International Report in 1974. His position was elevated to executive producer of Bill Moyers Journal in 1975. His 1976 interview with Jimmy Carter earned him a Peabody Award. Rose joined NBC News in 1976 as a political correspondent. During his tenure, he hosted several interview programs. Rose anchored CBS News Nightwatch from 1984 to 1990. He won an Emmy Award in 1987 for his interview with Charles Manson.

Rose’s self-titled interview show ‘Charlie Rose’ premiered on WNET on September 30, 1991. It was nationally syndicated on PBS from 1993 to 2017. His guest hosts over the years include Eric Kandel, Judd Apatow, and Seth Meyers. Rose served as a correspondent for 60 Minutes II from 1999 to 2005. He became a part-time correspondent of 60 Minutes in 2008. He was honored with the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2015. Rose made cameo appearances in such films as Primary Colors (1998) with John Travolta, Elegy (2008) with Penelope Cruz, and The Ides of March (2011) with Ryan Gosling. He’s appeared on television series like The Good Wife, Breaking Bad, and House of Cards.
